Position: Hydrogeologist (groundwater protection)

About the job

In this role, you will:

  • Review technical reports and evaluate the hydrogeological impacts of proposed and existing activities on regional groundwater resources.
  • Design and conduct field investigations to assess environmental risks and compliance with health-based standards.
  • Give scientific advice in environmental response situations, such as spills and waste disposal, to ensure groundwater protection.
  • Prepare and present scientific reports to various partners, including ministry staff, municipalities, and the public.
  • Contribute to legal proceedings by providing specialist testimony and preparing legal documents related to groundwater management.
What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements
  • You are a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) without relevant limitations or with another regulated association of geoscientists in Canada, including the Professional Engineers of Ontario if qualified to practice geoscience.
  • You have a post‑secondary degree with specialization in a discipline such as Geology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences.
  • You hold a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
Environmental knowledge
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of contaminant hydrogeology, hydrogeological methods and techniques, and related theories, principles and practices.
  • You have knowledge of how to investigate environmental issues, manage water resources, and can stay up to date on new theories and practices in environmental management.
  • You can interpret and apply environmental laws, such as the Environmental Protection Act and the Ontario Water Resources Act, as well as related policies and guidelines.
Investigative, assessment and project management skills
  • You can research, assess, and evaluate environmental problems.
  • You can investigate complaints, spills, and other issues, and develop appropriate solutions to resolve them.
  • You can use your project management skills to run field studies and other projects.
  • You can explain technical information in a way that is easy to comprehend.
  • You work well with others and can influence people with different interests.
  • You can develop and present scientific reports to various audiences.
Computer proficiency
  • You know how to use computer modeling and common office software like email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
