About the jobIn this role, you will:
- Review technical reports and evaluate the hydrogeological impacts of proposed and existing activities on regional groundwater resources.
- Design and conduct field investigations to assess environmental risks and compliance with health-based standards.
- Give scientific advice in environmental response situations, such as spills and waste disposal, to ensure groundwater protection.
- Prepare and present scientific reports to various partners, including ministry staff, municipalities, and the public.
- Contribute to legal proceedings by providing specialist testimony and preparing legal documents related to groundwater management.
Mandatory requirements:
- You are a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or another regulated association.
- You have a post-secondary degree with specialization in a discipline such as Geology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences.
- You hold a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of contaminant hydrogeology, hydrogeological methods, and related theories.
- You know how to investigate environmental issues, manage water resources, and stay up to date on new theories and practices.
- You can interpret and apply environmental laws such as the Environmental Protection Act and the Ontario Water Resources Act.
- You can research, assess, and evaluate environmental problems.
- You can investigate complaints, spills and other issues, and develop appropriate solutions.
- You can use your project management skills to run field studies and projects.
- You can explain technical information in an easy-to-understand way.
- You work well with others and influence people with different interests.
- You can develop and present scientific reports to various audiences.
- You can use computer modeling and common office software.
