Right at Home Ottawa (RAH Ottawa) is in search of a part-time Registered Practical Nurse. As a RPN with Right at Home Ottawa, you will be making a difference in the lives of your clients each day. The RPN will collaborate with the Care Planner to meet the needs of clients and attain an optimal level of independence in the home environment.

Access to a vehicle is required as there might be a need to travel throughout the area of work.

You will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skincare, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Performs delegations for tasks for which transfer of function (delegation) training is required, such as catheter care, suppositories, applying non-sterile dressings, and implementing exercise and mobilization routines.
  • Administers medication to clients and provides medication reminders in accordance with established policy and delegation.
  • Performs Nursing Assessments as required such as vital signs measurement.
  • Observes clients and their environments, and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical, and/or cognitive changes to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates methods and provides basic information to clients in relation to activities of daily living, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, and grocery shopping, in accordance with pre-established care plans.
  • Implements and coordinates the resident's pre-established care plan working with the resident/substitute decision maker, physicians, nursing & interdisciplinary team.
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as communication books and progress reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Attends RAH in-services, including Nursing related meetings.
  • Attends Client conferencing meetings.
  • May participate in RAH community events when requested, upon mutual agreement.

You may be required to:

  • Use safe body mechanics for lifting.
  • Bend, turn, squat on an ongoing basis.
  • Stand, sit, kneel for short periods.

Job Requirements:

You will need to have:

  • The RPN must be graduated from a Practical Nursing Program approved by Council of the College of Nurses.
  • Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in applicable Province/State.
  • Any past experience working in a senior’s environment and with unregulated care providers will be an asset.
  • Must have demonstrated sound clinical knowledge.
  • Current Certificate of Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level

  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VSS).
  • Clear vulnerable Sector check (obtained within previous six months).
  • Up to date immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, rubella and hepatitis.
  • Negative tuberculosis test.
  • Compassion and desire to work with elderly/vulnerable sector.
  • Good communication in English, both written and verbal.
  • Bilingualism is an asset (English and French).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adjust to working with people of different backgrounds and abilities.
  • Access to a vehicle.
  • Valid driving license.
