Material Planner
Department: Materials

Compensation: $55,000 - $70,000 / year
DescriptionMission: Ensure the uninterrupted supply of direct production materials by effectively planning material requirements, managing supplier relationships, executing procurement activities, and proactively mitigating supply risks. The Planner supports Brockville manufacturing operations by balancing inventory, cost, quality, and delivery performance while collaborating closely with suppliers, production, engineering, scheduling, and logistics.
OUTCOMES:- Maintain 95% or greater supplier on-time delivery performance through proactive purchase order management, supplier follow-up, and escalation of delivery risks.
- Maintain less than 2% production downtime attributable to direct material shortages by ensuring timely procurement and supplier responsiveness.
- Improve supplier delivery reliability by implementing supplier performance reviews and corrective action plans with key suppliers by Q4 2026.
- Reduce premium freight expenses related to supplier delays by 25% through improved planning, forecast communication, and supplier collaboration.
- Maintain inventory levels within established targets while preventing shortages and minimizing excess or obsolete inventory.
- Ensure purchase orders are released, confirmed, and maintained accurately within the ERP system, including changes to quantities, pricing, and delivery dates.
- Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and production ramp-ups by ensuring material availability according to project timelines.
- Identify and implement cost‑saving opportunities through supplier negotiations, sourcing initiatives, and purchasing process improvements.
- Maintain accurate supplier lead times and planning parameters to improve material planning performance.
- Build strong relationships with strategic suppliers to improve responsiveness, communication, and long‑term supply reliability.
Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of material planning, procurement, and supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery commitments while balancing operational requirements.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret demand, inventory levels, supplier performance, and purchasing data to support decision‑making.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage purchase orders, planning parameters, and inventory transactions.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple suppliers and changing production requirements simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across manufacturing, scheduling, engineering, logistics, and finance teams.
- Proactive problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify supply risks early and develop effective mitigation plans.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on reducing costs, improving supplier performance, and optimizing inventory levels.
