About the RoleReporting to the Program Manager or designate, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the public and responsible for ensuring that practice and conduct meet legislative requirements and the standards of the profession as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
The RPN provides nursing care within their full scope of practice and contributes to the delivery of KHSC's strategic priorities through a commitment to excellence in patient and family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities Patient and Family Care- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care using evidence-informed practice
- Prioritize patient care based on individual needs
- Monitor patients and recognize changes in condition, consulting appropriately with the healthcare team
- Develop and coordinate care plans to achieve desired patient outcomes
- Provide patient and family education and support
- Assign, teach, and supervise Unregulated Care Providers as appropriate
- Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment within the RPN scope of practice
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
- Participate in care planning and discharge planning activities
- Contribute positively to the functioning of the unit and healthcare team
- Support ethical decision-making and quality patient care initiatives
