About the Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work up to 29 hours per week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from customers’ homes and designated charity donation bins, and deliver these items to our Corporate Partners and storage facilities.

Understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and volunteers.

Have a thorough knowledge of the organization's goals, objectives, services, programs, and structure at all levels.

Always operate the vehicle in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in a safe, responsible manner.

Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.

Complete and submit the appropriate paperwork daily, including Hours‑of‑Service logs.

Always carry proof of a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and commercial driver registration/National Safety Code documentation.

Check in with dispatch at the beginning, mid‑day, and end of the scheduled route.

Provide an appropriate message card to each donor.

Log all assigned pick‑ups and unload merchandise as instructed.

Return all equipment to the office at the end of each day.

Report route discrepancies to dispatch.

Ensure that only authorized personnel ride inside the truck.

Participate in all required driving‑related National Diabetes Trust education, initiatives, directives, and procedures.

Perform any additional duties required to support the effective operation of the department.

About You

Grade 12 education or equivalent experience.

Ability to read maps.

Ability to handle 10–50 lbs. loads.

Ability to drive a 3‑Ton (16‑foot) straight truck.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to map routes efficiently.

Ability to project a positive business‑like image to the public.

Effective communication skills with a wide variety of people.

Calm assistance to upset clients and maintain a professional demeanor under stress.

Understanding and following written or verbal instructions.

Good command of the English language.

Must have a Full Class 5 or higher license and a minimum of 5 years of actual driving experience at this level (2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle training).

Must have a clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years.
