Job DescriptionPosition Title: Special Education Teacher
Position Type: $63,500.00 Annual / Exempt
Based on performance indicators such as student achievement, attendance, T-TESS, etc., Teachers may qualify for a Jubilee Excellence Incentive ranging from $2000 - $8000, paid annually the year after qualifying.
Position Hours: Full-time;
Monday – Friday; 40 Hours per Week
Reports to: Campus Principal
Length of Term/Employment: 190 workdays / At-will
Position MissionProvide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula, prepare lessons, and instructional materials suited to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
Qualifications- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Understanding of ARD process and IEP goal setting and implementation
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Develop IEPs through ARD with students, parents, staff
- Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs
- Plan and utilize appropriate learning strategies and materials
- Collaborate with regular teachers to modify curricula and assist students
- Participate in ARD meetings
- Assess student learning styles and plan instruction accordingly
- Present subject matter per IEP guidelines
- Employ various instructional techniques and media
- Supervise teacher aides and volunteers
- Integrate technology in teaching
- Conduct ongoing assessments of achievement
- Provide or supervise personal and medical care as per IEP
- Support extracurricular activities and outside activities
- Model positive behavior and support school mission
- Create conducive learning environment
- Manage behavior and discipline, including crisis intervention and restraint as needed
- Consult on student needs with district and outside resources
- Ensure safety and proper use of materials
- Assist in selecting instructional materials
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff
- Uphold professional relationships
- Communicate effectively and clearly
- Participate in professional development
- Comply with regulations and policies
- Maintain reports and records
- Attend meetings and serve on committees
- Supervise teacher aides
- Promote the charter’s mission and community involvement
- Participate in recruitment and engagement activities
- Maintain emotional control and handle physical demands
- May need to lift and assist students with disabilities
- Work in environments with biological hazards
