Job Description

Thank you for your interest in the Kingsville Police Department. The City of Kingsville Police Department is a civil service department consisting of 50 officers. Information concerning the City’s hiring process is enclosed. Please read the information carefully. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), the Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143, and have not disqualifying events under any of the listed “Reasons for Disqualification”.

The role includes responding to calls and other requests from the public for emergency assistance and patrolling community and assigned areas for traffic and other types of violations.

Essential Job Functions

ALTERNATE LEVEL HIRING PROCESS – $27.33 per hour.

NO ENTRY‑LEVEL TEST REQUIRED.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Intermediate TCOLE Peace Officer Certification
  • 3 years prior law enforcement experience
  • Actively worked in law enforcement within 12 months preceding application

Applicants must submit a complete online application, attach required documents, and keep HR informed of any changes in contact information. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

Application and Selection Process – Alternate Hire

The application process is in six phases. Each phase must be successfully completed to progress to the next. An applicant may be disqualified at any phase.

  • WRITTEN EXAMINATION – NOT APPLICABLE FOR ALTERNATE HIRE APPLICANTS.
  • BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION – Include a detailed Personal History Statement completed and returned by the specified date.
  • PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST – Applicants must complete a physical agility test when scheduled. Passing the test moves the applicant to Phase 4.
  • INTERVIEWS – When a vacancy exists; successful Phase 3 applicants interview before an interview board of four to six members.
  • PRE‑EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL EXAMINATION – Physical exam by an authorized medical physician when a vacancy occurs.
  • FINAL SELECTION – Based on all previous phases.
  • Physical Agility Test Standards (vary by age and gender):

    • Males – 20–29: 1.5‑mile run 15:10, 1‑min push‑ups 18, 1‑min sit‑ups 30, 300‑meter run 1:24.2; 30–39: 15:52, 13, 26, 1:24.2; 40–49: 16:28, 9, 22, 1:24.2; 50–59: 17:29, 6, 15, 1:24.2; 60+: 19:15, 4, 10, 1:24.2.
    • Females – 20–29: 1.5‑mile run 17:21, 1‑min push‑ups 12, 1‑min sit‑ups 21, 300‑meter run 1:24.2; 30–39: 18:00, 8, 15, 1:24.2; 40–49: 18:31, 2, 10, 1:24.2; 50–59: 19:30, 1, 6, 1:24.2; 60+: 20:04, 0, 1, 1:24.2.
    Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

    Age Requirements: Entry Level: Must be 18–44 years of age at time of application. If 18–20, must have an associate degree or 60 college hours or 24 months active duty with honorable discharge. (

    Note:

    Age requirements are subject to Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143.)

    Education: High School Diploma or GED with 12 hours at a higher education institution (2.0 GPA) or honorable discharge from U.S. armed forces after at least 24 months active duty.

    License: Valid driver’s license required before submitting application.

    Military Service Points: Candidates with an “Honorable” discharge are eligible for 5 additional points on the entry‑level exam if they score 70% or better. DD‑214 must be submitted prior to the exam.

    Reasons for Disqualification
  • Conviction for, or being under indictment for, or currently charged with any felony offense.
  • Conviction for any Class “B” or above misdemeanor offense within the last 10 years preceding the date of application.
  • Conviction of any family violence offense.
  • Conviction for driving under the influence (SWI/DUI) within 3 years preceding the date of application.
  • Currently being on probation for any offense.
  • Illegal use of any controlled substance or dangerous drug other than marijuana within 2 years preceding the date of application.
  • Having illegally furnished any controlled substance or dangerous drug to another.
  • Excessive record of traffic convictions or negligent traffic collisions within a 3‑year period prior to application (3+ moving violations, driver’s license suspension for driving while intoxicated, or a series of negligent collisions).
