About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering major Electricity Transmission and Overhead Line (OHL) projects across the Aberdeen region.

This role offers the chance to work on large-scale transmission infrastructure projects, supporting the commercial delivery of critical energy networks that are essential to the UK's future energy requirements.

Working Arrangement

To ensure a successful integration with the project team and build strong stakeholder relationships, this role will be site-based five days per week for the first six months. Following this initial period, and once a strong working relationship has been established with the client and wider project team, the position will transition to a hybrid working arrangement.

The Role

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role within the commercial team, supporting project delivery, maximising profitability, managing risk, and ensuring robust commercial governance across a portfolio of transmission projects.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and support the production of commercial reports, claims and project documentation.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with Project Managers and operational teams.
Monitor commercial risk and maintain project risk registers.
Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including:
Procurement and quotations
Valuations
Variations
Claims management
Final accounts
Administer compensation events and contractual change management processes.
Identify and manage variations, delays and commercial claims.
Support project forecasting, cost control and financial reporting.
Undertake cost/value reconciliations and profitability reviews.
Attend project and commercial meetings as required.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within commercial processes.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.

Candidate Requirements

Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Quantity Surveying.
Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil engineering sectors.
Strong understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
Experience managing subcontractors and commercial packages.
Proven capability in contract costing and cost/value reconciliation.
Experience administering variations, valuations and claims.
Strong analytical, financial and commercial awareness.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home where required.

Desirable Experience

Electrical Transmission sector experience.
Overhead Line (OHL) project experience.
Utility or major infrastructure project background.
