I’m currently hiring an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support an upcoming high-voltage substation upgrade project in Scotland.
This role will be responsible for planning, coordinating and executing commissioning activities ahead of energisation, ensuring that HV equipment, protection systems, control circuits and SCADA interfaces are tested safely and in line with client, utility and project requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager, client representatives, protection and control engineers, equipment vendors, SAPs and site personnel throughout the testing, outage and energisation stages.
Key responsibilities:
• Testing HV substation equipment and associated systems
• Carrying out tests on circuit breakers, CTs, VTs and transformers
• Performing primary and secondary injection testing
• Commissioning protection and control systems
• Reviewing interlocks, alarms, trip circuits and control logic
• Carrying out SCADA and RTU commissioning and point-to-point testing
• Preparing commissioning procedures, test plans and test sheets
• Coordinating outages, switching activities, energisation and key milestones
• Identifying, recording and closing defects and outstanding commissioning items
• Compiling and handing over commissioning records and documentation
• Supporting final system readiness reviews prior to energisation
• Ensuring all work is completed in line with HSE, quality, SPEN Safety Rules and client standards
The ideal candidate will have:
• Previous commissioning experience on 275kV or 400kV substations
• Strong knowledge of protection, control and HV plant equipment
• Experience working on transmission substation upgrades
• Previous exposure to SP Energy Networks, National Grid or a similar UK utility environment
• Experience supporting brownfield projects, outages and energisation activities
• Experience with SCADA, RTUs and integrated protection and control testing
• A valid Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person authorisation
• Current or previous SPEN Safety Rules authorisation
• Availability to work onsite in Scotland
Relevant safety qualifications:
• First Aid (Required)
• CSCS or EUSR Safety Passport
• Working at Height
• Relevant utility or substation access authorisations
Experience with Omicron Test Universe and one or more protection relay configuration platforms, such as DIGSI, PCM
600, MiCOM S1 Studio or SEL AcSELerator, would be highly desirable.
Experience with Zenon or other SCADA platforms would also be beneficial.
