Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

Walgreens is looking for a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice to join our team. This role focuses on patient interaction, developing strong relationships, and becoming a PTBC certified Pharmacy Technician through our “earn while you learn” apprenticeship program.

Base pay range: $16.50/hr – $20.00/hr

Our pharmacy technician positions have evolved from a transaction-based role to a patient‑centric one. As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Apprentice you will be front and center – interacting with customers and developing strong patient relationships. Responsibilities
  • In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assist the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies.
  • Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
  • Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members, including greeting, eye contact, courtesy, and proactive service.
  • Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
  • Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accurate entry, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine, and checking for interactions.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist and adhere to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
  • Responsible for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, handling cash, and taking customers to OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, collecting and labeling patient samples, and coordinating services.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing relationships with local medical community and outreach to health groups.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance, ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Comply with all company policies, maintain respectful relationships with coworkers, and complete special assignments.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend required training, acquire continuing education credits, and stay current on healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling.
  • Good computer skills.

    Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
