Description of WorkThe Health Care Technician I / CNA position within the Facility Infirmary and Medical Unit provides direct care to developmentally disabled individuals in a caring home‑like environment. The role supports the quality of life for patients and maintains dignity and respect for all patients.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care to developmentally disabled individuals.
- Enhance quality of life through a home‑like environment and individualized care.
- Offer treatment with dignity and respect, supporting each individual's choices.
- Care for medically fragile adults with significant intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
- Must be in good standing with the NC Health Care Personnel Registry.
- Successfully complete training through the Staff Development department (NCI, CPR, Body Mechanics, Lifting, etc.).
- Frequent lifting and bending required (lifting minimum 50 lbs 6‑8 times daily).
- A valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals, staff, and others.
- Maintains a professional, even‑tempered demeanor and works both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques and communicate observations in written and verbal form.
- Ability to perform vital sign monitoring and provide direct patient care, including Foley catheter, tracheostomy, and G‑tube care, and assist with treatments such as applying ointments and managing colostomy bags.
- Lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis (6‑8 times daily).
- Stoop, bend, walk, run short distances (50 yards), and climb stairs without permanent limitations.

Salary Range: $29,748.00 – $44,621.00
Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 – $44,621.00
Sign‑On Bonus: $2,000 (conditional on 2025‑2026 Budget Approval)
Eligibility for Sign‑On Bonus:
New permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time employees working 30‑40 hours per week (prorated for < 40 hours).
- Employees who have held a position in NC State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months.
- Employees who have previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency.
- Employees where DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
This position is designated as mandatory and requires reporting or staying over during adverse weather events.
