Complex Maintenance Mechanic - 3rd Shift
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, and repairs of large manufacturing equipment (hydraulic, pneumatic, conveyor, etc.) at Wayne Farms.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines, including cleaning, oiling, lubricating, and changing belts as necessary to ensure machines are in optimal working condition.
- Identify the root cause of unexpected breakdowns of machines; repair quickly and efficiently to decrease downtime.
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts, ordering and installing replacement parts for machines as needed.
- Prepare reports documenting work performed.
- Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
- Collaborate with department heads regarding new products being added and required modifications.
- Make necessary modifications and implement test runs; confer with product manager regarding test results and make additional alterations to machinery as required.
- Identify opportunities for improvement, present to appropriate leader, and implement or lead solution implementation.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas where mandatory to promote a zero‑accident culture.
- Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational certificate in an appropriate field (e.g., welding, maintenance, electrical) is preferred.
- Ability to take and pass internal required testing.
- Mechanically inclined with relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, etc. to diagnose problems with manufacturing equipment.
- Good computer literacy with ability to enter work records in appropriate program.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner; multi‑lingual strongly preferred.
- Ability to handle and resolve most issues efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, planning skills, and high attention to detail.
- Strong customer‑centric attitude, high energy level, and a strong sense of urgency.
- Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
- Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory.
- Ability to work extended shifts (holiday, weekend, and/or extended) as business need requires.
- Ability to work in cold/humid or hot/dusty environments as needed.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, crawling, stooping, kneeling, etc. with ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
