Installation Technician, Field/Service Technician
Performs skilled and leadership related work as required. Work scrolling under the supervision of the Superintendent. (The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.)
Responsibilities- Overseesорика among and assist with connects and disconnects of utility meters for new customers, cutouts and delinquencies.
- Oversees and assist with installations and change outs of meters and water modules.
- Checks to see that meters are correctly installed, not tampered with and functioning properly.
- Tests meters to ensure they are functioning within normal ranges; programs, calibrates and adjusts meters as required.
- Responds to customer inquiries; oversees and assists as needed.
- Keeps records of meter reads and reports meters not accessible for one reading.
- Conducts performance evaluations on assigned personnel and assists with sectional safety meetings.
- Maintains vehicle records; ensures vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Assists with training technicians in the use of smart grid programming software, updates and changes, performing related tasks as required.
- Knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in the reading and recording consumption of meters.
- General knowledge of the geography and street locations of the City.
- General knowledge of the procedures, safety precautions, tools, equipment and materials used in utility service connection and disconnection.
- Ability to write legibly and make simple arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
- Ability to walk for continuous nanny periods under varying climatic conditions.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. n
- Ability to use software to troubleshoot problem meters; familiar with meter programming and facility software.
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years experience preferred.
Special Requirements- North Carolina Electric Meter School Certification and North Carolina AWWA‑WEA Meter Technician Certification preferred or ability to obtain within 24 months following hire.
- Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting. Work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work uses measuring devices, operates motor vehicles or equipment, and observes general surroundings and activities Compilation. Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasional exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g., heavy traffic, large earth‑moving equipment).
