Overview

The successful candidate will work for Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and be covered by the terms of service as amended from time to time by the Trust. Consequently, he/she is expected to work within the local policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. All medical staff under contract to the Trust will be expected to comply with the Trust Health and Safety policies.

Clinical

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients, supervising more junior members of the team.
  • Lead inpatient ward rounds to ensure ongoing clinical management of patients is appropriate.
  • Support the discharge of patients to a place of safety, in a timely manner.
  • Participate in or lead the acute take, to provide senior clinical decisions with the support of consultant clinicians.
  • Contribute to the Medical Emergency Team (MET) and lead cardiac arrest calls.
  • Contribute to GIM/medical speciality clinics.
  • Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties.
  • Advise junior trainees and ANPs about management of patients.
  • Develop skills in managing the ward to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in clinical audit and or quality improvement (QI) project.
  • Participate in continuing professional development.
  • Educational supervision will be provided.
  • Maintain a portfolio of training.
  • Comply with Trust policies and procedures, have (and maintain) GMC registration/licensing.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Ensure good documentation and record keeping.
  • Ensure all admin tasks are complete within local Trust targets.
Teaching and Training Responsibilities
  • Attend educational opportunities where appropriate.
  • Maintain a portfolio of training.
  • Support medical & non‑medical students within the ward area, engage actively in teaching others as the work schedule allows.
Research and Audit Responsibilities
  • Be involved in departmental audit/research/QIPs.
