Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant – September Start – Full Time
Location: Knowsley

A welcoming specialist school in the Knowsley area is seeking a dedicated and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people with additional needs, with opportunities for a long‑term or permanent position for the successful candidate.

The school works closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and requires a supportive individual who can build positive relationships and provide consistent encouragement throughout the school day. The successful applicant will help students develop confidence, emotional resilience, and engagement within the classroom environment.

The Role
  • Deliver individual and small group support tailored to pupils’ specific needs
  • Assist students in managing emotional and behavioural challenges that may affect learning
  • Implement positive behaviour management techniques and support de‑escalation strategies
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and pastoral teams to maintain a structured and supportive setting
  • Promote positive social interaction, confidence, and participation in school activities
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working within SEND, SEMH, or alternative education settings is beneficial
  • Comfortable supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Experience in sports coaching or other transferable youth‑based roles would be advantageous
  • Patient, resilient, and understanding when supporting vulnerable young people
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships
