Job Overview

25.5 hours per week (Part time)

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Regional Plastic Surgery Dressing Clinic at Whiston Hospital. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a passion for excellence in patient care, to join our highly-skilled team of nursing and medical staff. The Mersey Regional Plastics Surgery Unit provides treatment and repair of major lacerations, including re‑attachment of severed body parts, reconstruction surgery for loss of tissue due to cancer, infection or trauma.

The post holder will be responsible for the clinical assessment of wounds and their treatment, and should work autonomously within this largely nurse‑led clinic.

Experience in wound care is essential.

An enhanced DBS with barred lists for both adults and children is required for this post.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Develop skills to care for acutely unwell patients.
  • Liaise with senior medical staff to provide a high quality service to patients and their families.
  • Offer advice and support to staff as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi‑disciplinary team to maximise the best use of resources.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the principles of Improving Working Lives.
  • Promote a safe working environment in accordance with risk management principles.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree or diploma).
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code.
  • Experience working in a clinical environment.
  • Understanding of requirements for NMC professional revalidation.
  • Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Understanding of national, regional and local NHS issues.
  • Experience providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships at all levels.
  • Effective prioritisation and coordination of own workload.
  • Ability to de‑escalate complex situations.
  • Clear written, verbal and non‑verbal communication with patients, relatives, carers and the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Awareness of the need for confidentiality at all times.
  • Computer literacy, e.g. experience of electronic patient records.
Other
  • Frequent moderate effort for several short periods such as manual handling of patients and equipment.
  • Frequent concentration required for drug calculation and administration.
