Job Description & How to Apply Below
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
My client is a contract electronic manufacturer specialising in producing complex electronic and electromechanical equipment in small to moderate volumes. They partner with a wide range of businesses, from start-ups to major OEMs, to deliver high-quality, reliable manufacturing solutions.
They are seeking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to work closely with and oversee the engineering group. This role involves organising the engineering activities of a small team while maintaining a hands-on approach, particularly supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) stages of PCB and electronic unit assembly.
You will work closely with customers and in-house production, quality, and procurement teams, providing regular reports to management and representing the Engineering group at internal and external meetings.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing or Process Engineer to step into a supervisory position while remaining technically involved in day-to-day engineering activity.
Key Requirements
All applicants must have:
* An HNC or equivalent qualification in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a production-engineering role involving complex electronic/electromechanical assemblies and/or experience with surface-mount technology and general PCB assembly.
* Experience developing electronic manufacturing processes.
* Strong computer literacy.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence to communicate across all levels of the business—from shop floor to director level and directly with customers.
* The ability to work independently and contribute to continuous improvement strategies.
* Experience training and mentoring junior engineers, including performance reviews.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities
* Manage engineering activities to ensure customer expectations and timelines are met.
* Prepare and update shop-floor processes, assembly instructions, placement programs, reflow profiles, and related documentation.
* Work with the Quality team to improve key process indicators.
* Identify root causes of manufacturing defects and implement corrective actions.
* Generate and implement engineering changes.
* Accurately create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing files.
* Lead the New Product Introduction (NPI) process for new products.
* Liaise with customer design teams during product development to ensure effective Design for Manufacture (DFM).
* Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and equipment, identifying improvement opportunities and supporting capital equipment justification.
* Oversee in-house maintenance and servicing of equipment, including managing external service contracts.
The successful candidate will thrive in a team-oriented environment and possess strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills. They must be self-motivated, structured in their approach, and capable of delivering high-quality engineering support within a dynamic manufacturing setting
