Care Assistant

Overview

The role involves providing person-centered care and support to residents, helping them maintain their independence and dignity. You will be responsible for assisting with daily tasks such as personal hygiene, mobility, and mealtimes, while also engaging in social activities and providing companionship.

• Care:
  Ensure the highest possible levels of care by supporting/assisting People in our Care with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and all other aspects of daily living.
• Assist People in all aspects of their care needs (physical, emotional, and spiritual) with attention to comfort and dignity.
• Support People with limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties, using aids provided.
• Closely monitor People who may be confused or have behavioural problems.
• Assist in promoting continence and in the delivery of care for People who are dying or have a progressive illness. Include assisting with last offices where applicable.
• Observe care planning needs and complete written daily records in line with Company policies and procedures.
• Support social activities by interacting with People and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Care Home.
• Answer Nursecall system, respond to requests, answer the door and telephone appropriately, pass on messages promptly.
• Under supervision and guidance of senior Care Staff, report on the well-being of People.
• Carry out regular checks on People at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
• Make Visitors feel welcome; provide refreshments/assistance as required.
• Make and change beds; ensure rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with waste disposal policy; use resources responsibly.
• Clean and maintain equipment used by People/Relatives (e.g., wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles); keep the Care Home clean and tidy in line with company standards.
• If applicable, care for People’s clothing/rooms; ensure clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
• Ensure full privacy and dignity for the dying and bereaved, in line with Company policies and procedures.
• Assist People during meal times (consider swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements); assist with serving of food/drinks, set and clear tables and trays; wash up as requested.
• Escort People traveling to/from the Care Home for outings, hospital visits, etc.
• Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with People’s personal and financial affairs and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship.
• Assist with rearrangement of people’s bedrooms, moving furniture with safe moving and handling techniques.
• Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.

• Willingness to participate in Vocational Training Programmes.
• Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable).
• Relevant Vocational Qualification (achieved/working towards) (Desirable).
