Area Manager North & Scotland
Description
The Area Manager is responsible for leading and delivering high-quality 24/7 technical service operations across the North UK region (including Scotland). Working closely with the UK Service Management Team and Service Program Account Manager, the role ensures operational performance meets contractual, regulatory, and legislative requirements while driving service excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership:
Oversee asset maintenance, repairs, upgrades, commissioning/decommissioning, and service recovery across sites. - Service Performance & SLAs:
Monitor KPIs, manage SLAs, ensure timely work order completion, and drive performance improvements. - Workforce & Resource Management:
Lead workforce planning, scheduling, utilisation, overtime control, and long-term operational resilience. - Team Leadership & Development:
Recruit, develop, and manage high-performing field teams; maintain competency matrices and training compliance. - Compliance &
Risk Management:
Ensure adherence to H&S, cyber security, ISO
9001, CAA, DfT, IRR
17, radiation regulations, and other industry standards. Lead audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. - Financial & Systems Oversight:
Ensure accurate CRM/system usage, labour charging, cost control, and expense compliance. - Stakeholder & Escalation Management:
Act as regional escalation point; maintain strong collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and stakeholders. - Inventory & Asset Control:
Manage critical on-site stock and asset tracking. - Duty Management:
Support out-of-hours escalations via rota.
Requirements:
- BA with 5+ years of experience or a Masters Degree with 3+ years of experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Proven experience leading large-scale, multi-site technical service operations in regulated environments.
- Strong leadership and performance management skills with a track record in change management and continuous improvement.
- Ability to build high-performing, agile teams and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Excellent planning, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Commercial and financial acumen.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex technical information.
- High integrity and professionalism with solid health & safety and compliance knowledge.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in challenging environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems.
- Willingness to travel regionally as required.
- Level 5 Leadership/Management (or equivalent) and technical qualification (NVQ3/HNC/HND in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with reliability testing and cross-functional coordination.
- Knowledge of aviation, security, or related sectors.
- Familiarity with ISO
9001 or other quality standards and audits. - IOSH Managing Safely.
- Degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

£58,400.00-£74,900.00
