Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner/Trainee Nurse Practitioner within the Pre‑assessment suite at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. The position supports the Senior Charge Nurse in delivering a clinically effective service that prepares patients for admission for surgery. The post is primarily Monday to Friday, depending on service needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide autonomous practice, supporting the Senior Charge Nurse and collaborating with Nurse Practitioner colleagues, Consultant Anaesthetists, and Surgeons.
  • Manage waiting‑list patients attending for elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures.
  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and physical examinations.
  • Manage ongoing medical needs of elective patients to facilitate planned admission for surgery.
  • Assess, evaluate and optimise patients’ health preoperatively, liaise and plan admission with surgical/orthopaedic wards and theatres, and commence discharge planning.
  • Develop and expand the role to meet patient and service needs.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Substantial experience in surgical/orthopaedic settings, and knowledge of the acute surgical/orthopaedic pathway desirable.
  • Completed, or working toward, the Advanced Clinical Examination and Non‑Medical Prescribing course.
  • Senior band 5 nurse with significant surgical or anaesthetic experience may also be considered.
  • Committed to continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills; able to work effectively in a team and independently as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
Employment Details

This is a part‑time post; salary is pro‑rata. A member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required prior to appointment.
