role

The Rehabilitation service responds to referrals from a range of areas which include;
Acute, Community, Tertiary and Specialist Services Within the Rehabilitation Service the post holder will work as an integral member of the Rehabilitation Service and will deliver essential support to professional and senior staff.

The post holder will be delegated appropriate tasks by professionally qualified team members which include:
Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Dieticians, Speech and Language Therapists, Podiatrists and Pharmacists, and will assist those professionals, working under their supervision and guidance in undertaking both clinical and non-clinical tasks within the agreed parameters of a defined intervention plan. Training, supervision and support are provided to enable the post holder to work within their agreed competence levels.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

The is a permanent, part-time post of 26.6 hours per week.

This role is based at Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre.

Key responsibilities Clinical
  • 1. Treats patients individually in the patient's home
  • 2. Manages the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by professional staff, within agreed parameters of an individual patient plan and within an agreed competency framework. Is responsible for reporting back patient progress to the appropriate professional staff member.
  • 3. Liaises with the team members as necessary regarding patient care and attends inter-professional team meetings to provide information on patient status. In particular highlighting any variations to expected outcomes from treatment programmes delivered.
  • 4. Through a competency framework in various professional interventions. Implement delegated tasks e.g. monitor blood pressure; carry out venepuncture, measure weight, specimen collection if required, etc.
  • 5. Provide a range of remedial activities under direction from service professionals, including compensatory techniques, memory strategies, relaxation management, joint protection advice and splint appliance.
  • 6. Manual handling of patients on a daily basis. This may include assisting patients with significant physical, cognitive or behavioural impairment. Patients may be fairly immobile, obese or unwilling to move e.g. patients who require support for lengthy periods – often from lying to sitting position, sitting to standing and back in one session
  • 7. Competent in knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary assessment tools i.e. Tinnetti, Nottingham, Waterlow, MUST, Canard and Falls assessment.
  • 8. Ensure the Health & Safety Policy is adhered to, to maintain a safe working environment for patients and staff.
  • 9. Attends in-service training as required to promote continued personal development.
  • 10. Assisting patients with walking and stair practice – this may include sudden and unpredictable changes in direction of movement or faints/falls, which require physical support and/or safe lowering to the floor to avoid injury to patient and staff. This may include the higher risk areas of walking outdoors or using public stairways
  • 11. Assist patients with social and leisure pursuits, facilitating re-integration into community activities by accompanying/supporting patients in the use of public transport and community activities (shopping, hairdresser etc).
