An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kirklees Council's Facilities Management Team as a Caretaker based at the newly Created Our Cultural Heart (OCH) development in Huddersfield.
Our Cultural Heart is one of the largest regeneration projects in Kirklees, creating a vibrant destination that brings together culture, community, events and public spaces. As a Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the campus remains safe, secure, welcoming and operational for residents, visitors, staff and partners.
No two days will be the same. From opening and securing buildings, supporting events and activities, carrying out statutory checks and minor repairs, to helping manage access across the OCH campus, you will be at the centre of the day-to-day operation of this landmark venue.
About the roleWorking within Corporate Landlord's Facilities Management Team, you will be part of a small, dedicated team responsible for maintaining high standards across the OCH campus. You will work closely with colleagues from Culture and Visitor Economy and other council services to support a diverse programme of cultural, civic and community activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Opening, locking and securing the OCH campus and associated facilities.
- Monitoring the site and responding to issues using CCTV and other security systems.
- Carrying out statutory compliance and health and safety checks.
- Undertaking minor repairs, maintenance and decoration works.
- Reporting and monitoring building repairs and maintenance issues.
- Setting up and dismantling rooms and event spaces to meet operational requirements.
- Supporting fire, evacuation, invacuation and lockdown procedures.
- Liaising with contractors, colleagues and building users to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Providing excellent customer service and maintaining a welcoming environment for all visitors.
We are seeking a practical, adaptable and customer-focused individual who can work confidently both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a caretaking, facilities or building operations role.
- Practical DIY, repair and maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to use IT systems and complete required documentation.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- A flexible approach to work, including participation in rota arrangements and occasional out-of-hours working.
- The ability to undertake the physical aspects of the role, including manual handling activities.
