About the Organisation

As Scotland’s smallest health board, NHS Orkney provides comprehensive medical services to the 22,000 residents across Orkney’s 70+ islands.

The Position

The Executive Assistant will support the Executive Director and the executive team, ensuring day‑to‑day operations run smoothly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing complex calendars and coordinating high-level meetings.
  • Handling confidential communications and documents.
  • Supporting corporate governance processes and representing the Board’s image.
  • Planning and orchestrating work to meet Executive Director priorities and organisational goals.
  • Maintaining flexibility and teamwork in a dynamic environment.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a recognised qualification in business administration or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Be proactive, meticulous, and a skilled problem solver.
  • Have experience in an office environment performing administrative duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality of high-level systems and operations.
  • Be willing to work full time, 36 hours per week, on a permanent basis.
Location and Contract

The role is based at The Balfour
, NHS Orkney’s headquarters. It is a permanent, full‑time position (36 hours per week). Candidates must reside in the UK to be eligible.

The position is band 4. If residing on Orkney, a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro‑rate per annum is added. Other benefits include:
