Assistant Accountant

Assistant Accountant (Kirkwall) - Full-time or Part-time (minimum 30 Hours per week) A hands-on finance role with real development - without leaving Orkney.

If you’re an experienced bookkeeper or finance assistant who likes things to balance, enjoys getting stuck into the detail, and wants a role that actually helps you progress, this could be a brilliant next step.

You’ll join our Kirkwall finance team and take ownership of key day-to-day finance processes, while also building your month-end and management accounts experience. What makes it extra interesting? You’ll be supporting a business that operates across the UK, US and Australia, so you’ll get real variety and exposure as you grow.

In this role, you’ll be trusted with important finance work from day one, including:

• Owning accounts payable (processing, accuracy, keeping things moving)
• Completing month-end reconciliations
• Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts
• Working with colleagues and supporting customers across our wider global operations

You don’t need to tick every box, but you should have solid experience in transactional finance and enjoy working carefully and consistently.

• Experience as a bookkeeper, finance assistant, or similar transactional finance role
• Confidence with accounts payable and reconciliations
• Strong attention to detail (you spot what others miss)
• A willingness to learn and an interest in building management accounting skills
• A calm, practical approach and the ability to manage your own workload
