Finance Officer
Council Offices, Kirkwall
35 hours per hour
Permanent

£32,743 - £35,006
£17.94 - £19.18 per hour

The above amounts include Distant Islands Allowance.

You will be reporting to the Team Manager – Corporate Finance.

Your working pattern is 35 hours per week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.

The purpose of this role is to support the functions of the Corporate Finance Section which includes the processing, gathering, analysis, verification and reporting of financial information.

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑focused individual to join our Corporate Finance Section, where you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality financial services across the organisation. As part of this busy and collaborative team, you will be responsible for the processing, validation and reporting of financial information, contributing directly to the accuracy and integrity of the Council’s financial operations.

In this role, you will manage your own workload confidently while also working closely with colleagues to meet shared deadlines and priorities. You will handle a wide range of financial queries from stakeholders both within the Council and from external partners, so strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships are essential. Your approach will be professional, helpful and customer‑focused, ensuring that those seeking financial information receive clear and timely support.

You should have good numerical, communication and organisational skills and have experience of working with finance systems. You will be comfortable working with data, maintaining accuracy under pressure and adapting to the demands of a fast‑paced environment.
