The

Position:

Are you a passionate and confident Mental Health nurse? We are looking for an enthusiastic Community Mental Health Nurse to join our dynamic team! This is your chance to make a real difference by providing evidence-based interventions to the Orkney community. You’ll work with a dedicated team of Nurses, Psychiatrists, Therapists, Social Workers and Support Workers, benefiting from psychology support and strong links with 3rd sector agencies.

In this role, you’ll conduct assessments and manage care delivery within your caseload, participate in duty and out-of-hours rotas, and assist with transfers to mainland Scotland. There are no inpatient beds available locally, so you will require well-developed assessment and risk management skills to appropriately manage care delivery. There is an expectation that when a transfer to mainland Scotland is in progress the post holder will assist colleagues in staffing the service over 24 hours.

Candidate:

We’re looking for someone with substantial experience as a Community Mental Health Nurse, strong assessment skills, and knowledge of trauma and psychological interventions. You must hold a professional qualification and active registration with the NMC UK.

Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration:

This post will be based at Vaenta

The successful candidate will work:
Full Time 37 hours per week - NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week from 1 April 2026 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.

This post is Permanent

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.
