Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles relevant to the resident’s clinical setting, competently practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and utilizes appropriate age and population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per the care plan.
The LPN performs testing to evaluate resident status, administers medications and treatments as ordered, evaluates and responds to emergent situations, documents resident interactions, and works effectively with the interdisciplinary care team. The LPN also provides technical support to healthcare professionals, counsels residents and families on prevention and treatment plans, and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as an LPN. Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
- In North Dakota, if the position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board‑approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing is required.
- Must have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan or have at least 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
- Currently holds an unencumbered LPN license with a state nursing board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges.
- Obtains and maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications. Completes required annual CEU and competency training of the department and facility.
