General Statement of JobUnder general supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work in the maintenance and repair of public parks, athletic fields and facilities. Operates moderate-sized equipment as required. Reports to the assigned Foreman.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions- Performs landscaping, minor trades work, pesticide application, the planting of shrubs and bushes, shrub and bush trimming, tree removal, tree trimming, etc.
- Performs completion of assigned projects by the foreman.
- Performs daily inspections of city parks.
- Ensures that all equipment has gas.
- Help set up for special events.
- Help repair all wood fencing in the park.
- Inspects playground equipment.
- Performs maintenance on all equipment, edges, weed eaters, etc.
- Mows city parks.
- Performs sanitation work (cleaning restrooms, picking up trash).
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in facility/grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. May require licensure for pesticide application. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state driver’s license. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within six months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Skill Requirements- Has knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks and Recreation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Ground keeper.
- Can comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information.
- Knows general facility and grounds maintenance procedures and techniques.
- Familiar with standard equipment, tools, materials and industry practices.
- Can operate heavy machinery with skill and safety.
- Has skill in the care and use of required equipment and tools.
- Can make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Can react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
- Can prepare simple records and reports.
- Can read and interpret a variety of materials related to the responsibilities of the job.
- Can analyze problems that arise on the job and make valid recommendations.
- Can take the initiative to complete duties without direct supervision.
- Can use independent judgment in performing routine tasks.
- Can provide assistance to supervisors and co‑workers as needed.
- Has the ability to learn and use new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
- Can perform duties in a courteous manner and communicate effectively with co‑workers and the public.
Must be physically able to operate vehicles, trucks, heavy equipment, hand and power tools, etc. Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20‑50 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

WorkingConditions
Works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather, including but not limited to exposure to extreme heat and cold, wetness, humidity, traffic hazards, machinery hazards, toxic agents, noise, smoke, dust, pollen, dirt, etc.
