Field Mechanic

Location: Kissimmee, FL (or surrounding area)

JDS builds roads, bridges and highways connecting communities. We are hiring a Field Mechanic to maintain and repair diesel‑powered equipment. Join a large yet family‑friendly team of more than 900 employees.

• Diagnose, test, adjust, and repair systems of heavy‑duty diesel‑powered public transit vehicles.
• Examine, test drive and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems using standard testing procedures and computer diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
• Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
• Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
• Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Maintain inventory and restock parts, and respond to road calls as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• 5+ recent years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic.
• Active driver’s license.
• Safety‑first attitude and strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
• Professional and courteous demeanor toward coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home as required.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.

• High ability to troubleshoot and repair general and advanced problems.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring heavy physical effort occasionally in inclement weather.
• In‑depth knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of engine repair, mechanical and electrical systems, and maintenance.

• Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. multiple times per shift, as well as talking, hearing, and seeing.
