Position: Plant Mechanic - All Levels

Salary: Plant Mechanic Apprentice: $20.46 - $25.57 Hourly
Plant Mechanic I: $21.90 - $27.36 Hourly
Plant Mechanic II: $25.10 - $33.41 Hourly

The purpose of this position is to support Water and/or Wastewater Plant operations by performing preventive and reactive maintenance and repairs to systems and equipment for assigned plant(s). Duties may include troubleshooting and repairing or replacing a variety of pumps, motors, valves, etc.

Plant Mechanic Apprentice
  • Must be physically able to operate a crane truck, and various hands and power tools. Flushing check valves; check voltage and amps, meg and ohm motors; check component, wiring, and connections; check floats and transducers. Utilize schematic diagrams. Assist with performing preventive and corrective maintenance, replacing mechanical parts, valves, piping, and pumps. Tasks that may involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort.
  • Maintains emergency generators and by-pass pumps installing hoses and power cords; assisting on vacuum trucks; checking e-mails and SCADA readings; creating work orders; attending monthly safety meetings. Maintains trucks by inspecting vehicles, lights, gauges, tires, tools, oils, belts, etc.; and inspecting cranes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Plant Mechanic I
  • Repairs and replaces various equipment by utilizing truck cranes, hand tools, and electrical meters; locking out tag out; removing debris from impeller and volutes; monitoring motor oil, power cords, bells; assessing conditions; and performing monthly PM's.
  • Troubleshoots for errors by monitoring meg and ohm motors; checking electrical voltages, components, wiring, and connections; checking floats and transducers; and utilizing Schematic diagrams.
  • Maintains generators and performs administrative work by conducting preventative maintenance; installing by pass and generators; hooking up power cables; assisting on vac trucks; checking e-mails and SCADA readings; creating work orders; attending monthly safety meetings; and overseeing pagers, phones, and radios.
  • Manages confined spaces by utilizing gas monitors, oxygen tanks, tripods, etc.; calibrating gas monitors; repairing and changing rails; disposing of debris; changing pipes; and repairing brackets and check valves.
  • Maintains trucks by inspecting vehicles, lights, gauges, tires, tools, oils, belts, etc.; and inspecting cranes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Plant Mechanic II
  • Repairs and replaces various equipment by utilizing truck cranes, hand tools, and electrical meters; locking out tag out; removing debris from impellor and volutes; monitoring motor oil, power cords, bells; assessing conditions; and performing monthly PM's.
  • Troubleshoots for errors by back-flushing check valves; monitoring meg and ohm motors; checking electrical voltages, components, wiring, and connections; checking floats and transducers; and utilizing Schematic diagrams.
  • Performs administrative work by checking e-mails; overseeing SCADA readings; creating work orders; attending monthly safety meetings and training events; managing credit card statements; supervising pagers and radios; analyzing spill reports and root causes; and creating stand-by and weekend report timesheets.
  • Performs inspections by checking exit lights and fire extinguishers; overseeing equipment, trucks, and crane; checking confine space trailer equipment; and inspections warehouse and MCC alarm systems.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Plant Mechanic Apprentice
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • This is an entry level position; previous relevant work experience is preferred but not required.
  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's license.
  • As a condition of employment, must obtain and maintain a State of Florida Class A (CDL) Driver's License with hazmat endorsement within the first six months of employment.
