About
The Role
The Site Safety Officer is a field-based, client-facing role responsible for supporting construction projects through health and safety program implementation, site inspections, hazard mitigation, and compliance oversight.
You will work closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to identify risks, recommend solutions, and foster a strong safety culture on site. This role is ideal for experienced construction safety professionals who thrive in dynamic environments, enjoy problem-solving, and take pride in protecting workers and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate health and safety programs and strategies for construction projects
Conduct detailed site inspections, identify hazards, and provide professional, actionable inspection reports
Lead safety orientations and verify workers meet current training requirements
Participate in pre-construction and pre-project meetings, providing input and recommendations for environmental, health, and safety procedures
Communicate and collaborate with clients or client-contractor site supervisors to eliminate or mitigate workplace hazards
Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development, regarding legal notices or inspections
Prepare incident, near-miss, and accident investigation reports
Complete client and contractor orientation training programs as required
Attend and actively participate in assigned health and safety trainings
Wear assigned clothing and personal protective equipment
Report any incidents, injuries, illnesses, or client hazards to your supervisor
Perform other duties as assigned to support safety and project outcomes
Qualifications & Experience
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation required
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulation 851 – Industrial Establishments, and Ontario Regulation 213/91 – Construction Projects
Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience, including inspections, hazard identification, incident investigations, and report writing
Exceptional communication skills, with tact and diplomacy when handling sensitive information
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile applications
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Flexible schedule to meet project, client, and company requirements
Valid provincial driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to client sites
Proficient in written and spoken English
