Key Responsibilities:
Review architectural, engineering, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and addenda to fully understand project scope
Perform detailed quantity take‑offs for plumbing fixtures, piping, valves, fittings, hangers, insulation, equipment, and related mechanical systems (may include piping, hydronic systems, and gas piping design/install)
Calculate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs using current pricing databases, historical data, and vendor/subcontractor quotations
Prepare clear, comprehensive bid proposals, scope clarifications, inclusions/exclusions lists, and alternate pricing as required
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, general contractors, and clients during pre‑bid meetings, site walks, and scope reviews
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; negotiate pricing when necessary
Identify value engineering opportunities, potential risks, and cost‑saving alternatives
Develop preliminary schedules and assess manpower requirements for mechanical/plumbing scopes
Maintain estimating templates, unit pricing databases, and historical cost records for continuous improvement
Support post‑bid activities, including scope reviews, buyout assistance, and change order estimating on awarded projects
Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, building codes, and industry best practices
Required Qualifications:
4–8+ years of progressive estimating experience in commercial plumbing and/or mechanical construction (Hydronic heating, gas piping systems, plumbing dominant preferred)
Strong knowledge of plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary/vent, storm drainage, fixtures) materials, installation methods, and current industry pricing
Familiarity with mechanical systems including HVAC piping/ductwork, boilers, chillers, pumps, and controls is highly desirable
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/estimating databases a plus
Ability to read and interpret complex architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications
Solid understanding of construction means & methods, labor productivity rates, and project sequencing
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of local/state plumbing and mechanical codes
Previous field experience installing plumbing or mechanical systems
Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills with high attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication abilities (clear scope writing and client presentations)
Ability to work under tight bid deadlines while maintaining accuracy
Self‑motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple estimates simultaneously
Team player who collaborates effectively across departments
Professional demeanour when interacting with clients, subs, and internal stakeholders
