This full-time, on-site Die Designer / Tooling Engineer role is based in Stratford, ON. The role involves designing and developing dies, tooling, and fixtures to support manufacturing processes and new product introductions, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and quality standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and updating CAD models and drawings, performing design reviews, collaborating with engineering, production, and maintenance teams, and troubleshooting tooling-related issues on the shop floor.
The Die Designer / Tooling Engineer will optimize tooling for cost, durability, and manufacturability, oversee prototype and trial builds, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes maintaining documentation, adhering to company and industry standards, and contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions for tooling failures.
- Primary responsibility will be to design Extrusion Dies, Tooling and Mechanical Components / Assemblies to manufacture Automotive Seals.
- Work with Machinists, Tool Makers and Process Engineers to help coordinate tool builds.
- Participate in the extrusion tooling and die trials to assist in developing the production process.
- Revise Extrusion Die Design as needed to improve part quality and process optimization.
- Estimate and provide extrusion tooling quotes and timing.
- Maintain organized design libraries on computer hard drive using specific file naming convention standards.
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Workers Safety Insurance Act and Cooper Standard Automotive Health, Safety and Environment Procedures.
- Minimum Education requirement - Engineering Technologist or Equivalent
- Minimum 2 years Tooling design experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skill set
- Solid Works Design experience required
- CFD Analysis experience preferred
- Mastercam knowledge is an asset
