This is a contract position, from approximately June 22, 2026 to December 31, 2026. This full‑time position offering 37.5 hours per week. Schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Valid G class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required. Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) required pre‑employment.

Key Responsibilities

Complete seasonal outdoor maintenance tasks (mowing, trimming, sweeping, raking and removing leaves, shoveling snow, applying ice melt, collection and disposal of litter, general custodial duties)

Ensure grounds and exterior areas of House of Friendship buildings and locations are kept clean, safe and in a presentable condition

Clean common areas, office spaces, staff spaces, and treatment spaces

Work with and engage program participants with daily cleaning, ensuring they are performing their roles as instructed

Address behavioural concerns while working alongside program participants

Support with conflict de‑escalation and risk mitigation to promote safety and participants’ wellbeing

Solve issues and take initiative to ensure that respective sites are safe, in good working order, and disinfected regularly

Provide support as required to maintenance technicians performing service work in tenant and participant spaces

Performing minor indoor maintenance tasks (painting including prep and cleanup, filter changes, minor repairs as needed)

Ensure refuse containers are moved to the correct locations on pick‑up dates

Ensure maintenance storage locations are kept clean and organized

Respond to interior and exterior maintenance and repair requests as assigned

Provide support with emergency clean up (e.g. following a plumbing breakdown)

Support maintenance staff and external contractors in the execution of their work at the program (e.g. plowing contractor, plumbers, electricians)

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge and experience in a related field is preferred; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting and refurbishing

Knowledge of building code, property standards, fire, health and safety regulations preferred

Skilled at detailed record keeping and task completion

Education/Experience

Minimum Grade 12 education required

Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in building maintenance, and custodial cleaning processes

Knowledge of property standards, fire, health and safety regulations preferred

Trade certificate or experience considered an asset

Critical Skills

Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected

Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members

Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs

Experience with and commitment to using an anti‑racism, anti‑oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery

Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude

Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges

Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping
