Position Summary:
The Machinist is responsible setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines to perform various tasks such as drilling, milling, and turning. This role requires a combination of technical skills, precision, and problem-solving abilities to ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, experience in precision machining, and is skilled at interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
Primary Responsibilities:
Maintain and service equipment through preventive maintenance and repair coordinationTroubleshoot and solve complex mechanical and operational issuesPrepare and load/set up the raw material or die sections in the machineManufacture, modify, and repair precision tools, jigs, fixtures according to specifications, blueprints, and technical drawingsRun and program CNC machines using provided CAD/CAM data (primarily Mastercam)Interact with CAD specialists/Toolmakers to refurbish/improve/build sparesUse of various equipment/tools to create and repair tooling, including, but not limited to, grinders, welding equipment, machining equipment, and overhead cranesStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workJob Requirements
Required Skills & Expertise:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience setting up and machining medium to large parts on horizontal machining centers and boring mills
2-5 years of previous work experience in a custom machining shopProven experience machining large castings and weldmentsProficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&TStrong understanding of tool selection, speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters for a variety of materialsKnowledge of Solid Works, Mastercam, Edgecam, and AutoCAD softwareProficient with Okuma, Siemens, and Heidenheim CNC controlsProficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-codeSkilled in programming and troubleshooting G-code and M-codeFamiliar with Fanuc CNC controls and Renishaw probing systemsComfortable building, setting up, and picking up toolingProficient in using a variety of inspection tools such as micrometers, verniers, calipers, and height gaugesCapable of troubleshooting machine-related functional issuesHands-on experience with overhead cranes, including safe rigging and manipulation of large components (up to 15,000 lbs)Solid understanding of welding and fabrication processesStrong communication skills with the ability to mentor and coach other machinists/operatorsAble to work independently and as part of a collaborative teamEquipment/ Tools/ Technology Used:
Measuring tools and instruments, such as micrometers, verniers, callipers, height gauges, or other specialized measuring instruments3, 4, and 5-Axis CNC machines LathePhysical Demands:
Manufacturing or workshop environment with exposure to loud noise and moving mechanical partsPersonal Protective Equipment provided and must be worn
