Assistant Director of Care (ADOC – Quality and Clinical Education, Nithview Community, Tri-County Mennonite Homes, New Hamburg, ON)

Nithview Community is a seniors’ community designed to provide several types of accommodation and services. Residents are able to choose the type of accommodation that is most appropriate for their care needs and continue to live within the community of care as their needs change. Emphasis is placed on assisting residents to live life to the fullest in this dynamic residential setting.

About

the Position

The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) Quality and Clinical Education is a non-union leadership position reporting directly to the Director of Care. The role supports the delivery of safe, high‑quality resident care through clinical leadership, quality improvement oversight, and coordination of clinical education within a unionized Long‑Term Care environment. This position is full-time with every other weekend.

Working in collaboration with the Director of Care, leadership team, and unionized frontline team members, the ADOC promotes compliance with legislative requirements, supports team member competency, and fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement, resident safety, and respectful labour relations.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Operational Support
  • Support the Director of Care in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of nursing and personal care services.
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and coaching to nursing team members and interdisciplinary team members in accordance with scope of practice and collective agreement considerations.
  • Act as a clinical resource for resident care concerns, care planning, and risk management.
  • Support day‑to‑day clinical operations and act as designate for the Director of Care as assigned.
  • Participate in on‑call responsibilities as required.
Quality Improvement & Risk Management
  • Coordinate and support the home’s Quality Improvement program in alignment with legislative, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
  • Monitor quality indicators, incident trends, and performance outcomes; analyze data and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Lead internal audits, quality reviews, and follow‑up on action plans.
  • Support preparation for Ministry of Long‑Term Care inspections and assist with inspection follow‑up activities.
  • Track and review incidents, critical incidents, complaints, and quality issues in collaboration with leadership.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
Clinical Education & Development
  • Coordinate and deliver clinical education and training programs for unionized and non‑union clinical team members, ensuring compliance with legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Identify learning needs based on quality data, audit results, inspection findings, and operational priorities.
  • Provide coaching and support to team members while respecting collective agreement provisions and role boundaries.
  • Support clinical onboarding education.
  • Maintain accurate education and training records in accordance with Ministry and organizational standards.
Unionized Environment & Professional Practice
  • Work effectively within a unionized environment, maintaining respectful and collaborative relationships with unionized team members and union representatives.
  • Ensure education, coaching, and quality initiatives are implemented in a manner consistent with collective agreements, organizational policies, and best practices.
  • Support professional practice standards and foster a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous learning.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the Director of Care, leadership team, and interdisciplinary partners to support resident care and quality outcomes.
  • Participate in committees and care conferences as required.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, residents, and families regarding care, quality, and education initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) (Registered Nurse).
