As a Manager in Training, you will be part of the leadership team in the store and work closely with the Store Manager(s). This on-the-job training path is designed for individuals who have a keen desire to learn or improve existing management and leadership skills with Moffatt & Powell Rona. Skills development includes: team building, building strong relationships with customers and associates, managing product and inventory, merchandising, ordering.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • To support the mission, vision and values of the company by providing strong leadership.
  • Leadership that supports the development of a workplace culture where people feel valued, capable and competent to do their job well and want to stay with the company
  • Work together to create a “United team” one that is connected by a common goal
  • Support the retail store manager(s) efforts to maximize results within your assigned store location, learn from your team members, and help to ensure the best possible experience for each customer.
  • Participate in training experiences, learn new skills and demonstrate increasing proficiency and expertise with managerial responsibilities. This position should prepare you for the decisions you will be making and the actions you will be taking in the areas of people management, operations management and product management.
  • Learn the operational procedures for the store or yard and supervise others as they complete these same tasks in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Under the guidance of the Store Manager, participate in employee related functions including interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, performance appraisal and the administration of human resources policies and initiatives.
  • Build strong and lasting relationships with our retail, professional and commercial customers
  • Ensure that the store is maximizing all sales opportunities
  • Motivate and influence sales performance with positive, specific feedback and recognition
  • Increase sales and margin with add on sales and up selling techniques
  • Lead by example and initiate contact with every customer. Guide customers to departments and provide
  • product info and educate on services offered
  • Resolve escalated customer issues patiently and in a way that strengthens the relationship
  • Make decisions that are in the best interests of the company AND the customer
  • Promote and network locally to generate new business or talented staff for the store
  • Work within the communities Moffatt serves to strengthen local relationships
  • Assist in retail and contractor sales support; special order products
  • Support store manager(s) by training / onboarding associates
  • Participate regularly in professional development and/or training provided through the company or mandated by the company
  • Partner and support store manager(s) with inventory management
  • Monitor inventory levels-partnering with buyers, working with other branches for transfers,
  • Perform cycle counts, confirm accuracy of product on hand, minimize negative on hand
  • Follows all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Health and Safety Handbook, Policy Manual and all other organization communication.
  • Upholds Section 27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including but not limited to, ensuring safe work practices are adhered to by all team members and that safety training and personal protective equipment are available to all team members.
