We are hiring for an individual to join our Housing Services, Supportive Housing and HART Transitional Housing teams as a Wellness Worker. The Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub is a newly funded program aimed at addressing critical health and social needs in our community. The HART Hub will support individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction, offering services that include addiction treatment, housing support and collaborative care.

This position will work at various Supportive Housing sites. The Wellness Worker supports individuals in the program and completes regular rounds of the property and buildings. This is an awake position.

This is a permanent, casual, relief position. Shifts scheduled as needed and as available. Must be available to work three (3) night shifts minimum per month. Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) required pre-employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for connecting with individuals in the program
  • Establish and maintain a helping relationship with individuals in the program
  • Completing regular checks of buildings to ensure safety of individuals in the program
  • Ensuring that individuals are not loitering on property
  • Administrative tasks
  • Participation in the Needle Syringe Program
Job Specific Knowledge/Skills
  • Previous experience in a social service environment is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of addictions and recovery issues
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Health and social services training important
  • Commitment to team approach
  • Passion to support people living on low income with support needs including mental health and addiction challenges
Education/Experience
  • Minimum 1-year post-secondary diploma/certificate in a related field to social services
Critical Skills
  • Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
  • Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
  • Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs
  • Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude
  • Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges
  • Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping
