Lead bot defence at Faire with edge security and distributed rate limiting in a hybrid engineering role. Protect a global wholesale marketplace from evolving automated traffic.
As Staff Security Engineer, Bot and Traffic Defence, you will set technical direction for scraping, credential abuse, and application-layer DDoS. You will build scalable controls, signals, tooling, and ownership across Security, Platform, service teams, and Anti-Abuse. The work spans WAF rules, bot detection, incident response, and measurable risk decisions.
Key Responsibilities:- Own the bot and traffic defence strategy and roadmap
- Author WAF rules, rate limits, and challenge mechanisms
- Build bot and trust signals with measurable precision
- Design distributed layer seven rate limiting
- Lead post-incident reviews and establish durable ownership
- Production ownership of CDN or edge security platforms
- Experience defending high-traffic sites against scraping and DDoS
- Understanding of fingerprinting, behavioural signals, and challenges
- Experience with infrastructure as code and cloud environments
- Technical direction and cross-team ownership experience
