Operations Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineer Superintendent to oversee the maintenance, engineering, and technical operations of a marine fleet based in Kitimat, BC. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring vessel reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness while leading a team of engineers and technical personnel.
We are looking for someone with strong technical expertise combined with exceptional leadership skills, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Candidates from marine transportation, offshore operations, oil & gas, shipbuilding, heavy industry, or other complex mechanical environments will be well suited for this opportunity. - Lead and mentor the port engineering team, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all maintenance and engineering activities.
- Oversee vessel maintenance programs, ensuring all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities are planned, coordinated, and executed in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Manage annual maintenance and engineering budgets, capital projects, vessel modifications, and fleet improvement initiatives while maintaining cost and schedule targets.
- Direct dry-dock planning, In-Service Inspection Plans (ISIP), vessel repairs, and engineering projects, ensuring fleet reliability and operational readiness.
- Investigate equipment, machinery, and systems failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence while improving long-term fleet performance.
- Collaborate with operations, vessel crews, regulatory authorities, contractors, shipyards, and technical specialists to support safe and efficient marine operations and fleet growth initiatives.
- Post-secondary education in Engineering or completion of an apprenticeship program leading to qualification as a Power, Stationary, or Marine Engineer.
- Marine Certificate of Competency is preferred; equivalent experience in offshore, oil & gas, industrial, or heavy mechanical environments will also be considered.
- Minimum 6 years of progressive supervisory or management experience leading maintenance, engineering, or technical teams in complex operational environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, maintenance programs, reliability practices, and asset management principles.
- Demonstrated leadership presence with excellent communication, relationship-building, coaching, and team development abilities.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot critical issues, manage multiple priorities under pressure, and make sound operational decisions while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance.
Pay: $150,000 - $190,000 annually
Location is Kitimat, BC - relocation available
