Position: REGISTERED NURSE (RN), ONCOLOGY
Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at the Kitimat General Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse practices in a variety of clinical settings and working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, participates in the delivery of client-centered care by assisting individual clients and their families respond to changing health care needs. Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care and by administering systemic therapy treatments to clients. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Tuesday - Friday, Days, 07:30 to 14:30, 08:00 to 15:00

Qualfications

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a practicing RN registrant.

• BC Cancer Agency Systemic Therapy Certification

Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages and side effects of drugs used in a systemic therapy environment.

• Knowledge of the nursing problems commonly encountered in a systemic therapy environment as well as the physiological and behavioral aspects of cancer illnesses.

• Proficiency in initiating and maintaining intravenous therapy and knowledge of central line access and care.

• Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.

• Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.

• Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.

• Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.

• Ability to organize and prioritize work.

• Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.

• Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.

• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.

• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
