Position: REGISTERED NURSE (RN), PRIMARY CARE

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Kitimat General Hospital. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health and under the general supervision of the Manager or designate, the Primary Care Nurse (PCN) will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

The PCN functions as a member of the interprofessional team and applies best practices to provide competent, safe, and ethical care for people and their families in settings such as physician practices, homes, schools, and communities. The PCN provides direct clinical care and services to individuals, groups, and communities, following clinical follow‑up according to each person’s primary Care Plan and personal goals of care.

Qualifications
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN registrant.
  • Three years recent, related clinical nursing experience in primary care nursing and/or chronic disease management settings, including developing and providing formal education to patients, families, the public, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Current valid B.C. Driver’s License.
Skills and Abilities
  • Assessment and Intervention: demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.
  • Communication: ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members using verbal, written, and computer communication means.
  • Critical Thinking: ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Person and Family Centered Practice: promote person‑focused care that demonstrates care for and with people and their families or significant others within the context of their community, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences.
  • Teaching and Mentoring: knowledge of adult learning principles and facilitation skills to educate people and others about essential health topics, and ability to mentor students and colleagues.
  • Management: effectively manage time and resources to support service delivery, implement team huddles and activities that promote communication, cooperation, and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Leadership: promote staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness, and risk‑taking, and plan for change and innovations while implementing policies and supporting professional development.
  • Knowledge Integration: use factual information, prior learning, and evidence‑based practice to support decisions and actions, integrating best practice from nursing, health‑related disciplines, and the humanities, arts, and sciences.
  • Population, Public Health, and Harm Reduction: develop a core set of public health attitudes and values, and ability to operate related equipment and computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
