Job Description

PARAPROFESSIONAL-

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate ELL Paraprofessional to join our high school team. The ELL Paraprofessional will work closely with English Language Learners to support their language acquisition and academic success. This individual will assist ELL students in understanding and engaging with classroom materials, providing language support across various subjects, and facilitating communication between students and teachers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of second language acquisition, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to ELL students in various subjects, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Assist ELL students in understanding and completing assignments, including explaining instructions and clarifying concepts as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between ELL students and teachers, ensuring that students are able to express themselves and participate actively in classroom activities.
  • Help create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for ELL students by promoting cultural understanding and sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff members to develop and implement strategies to support ELL students' academic and language development.
  • Assist in assessing ELL students' language proficiency and academic progress, and provide feedback to teachers and administrators as needed.
  • Monitor ELL students' attendance and behavior, and communicate any concerns or observations to appropriate school personnel.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to second language acquisition, cultural competency, and effective instructional strategies for ELL students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ELL coordinator or school administration.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in another language preferred, especially Spanish.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners in an educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of the needs of ELL students and their families.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support student success.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of ELL students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic school environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain any necessary certifications or clearances required for employment in a school setting.
