SUD Counselor Pay Range:

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education and experience as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Salary: $21.25 - $26.55 DOE

Summary

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselors help individuals and families through rehabilitation and recovery from drugs, alcohol, and other substance and behavioral addictions. The primary responsibility is to design and manage personalized recovery plans, assist clients in identifying negative behaviors, and teach preventative measures to reduce relapse risk. Counseling may occur one-on-one or in group settings, with the ultimate goal of supporting clients in achieving sobriety and self-sufficiency.

Key

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team to coordinate care for mutual clients.
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, treatment plans, and aftercare plans in compliance with agency and state standards.
  • Provide individual counseling and case management services; maintain timely and accurate documentation.
  • Facilitate evidence-based group sessions focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, and behavioral change.
  • Administer and track UA screenings following proper protocol; follow up with clients on results.
  • Assist clients with crisis management and stabilization strategies.
  • Coordinate referrals for inpatient residential treatment when necessary.
  • Communicate with family members as authorized by clients through signed releases.
  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision and attend required meetings.
  • Collaborate with QMHPs, case managers, peer support, and medical staff to ensure integrated care.
  • Maintain compliance with documentation timelines and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Supervisor.
What Success Looks Like
  • Clients demonstrate measurable progress toward treatment goals and improved coping skills.
  • Documentation is completed within required timelines (48 hours or by month-end deadlines) and meets compliance standards.
  • Group and individual sessions are delivered consistently and effectively using evidence-based practices.
  • Strong collaboration with team members and community partners ensures continuity of care.
  • Clients successfully transition to appropriate levels of care when needed, with minimal disruptions.
  • Clinical records meet KBBH, state, and federal requirements with zero audit findings.
  • Feedback-informed care shows high client satisfaction and engagement.
