Position SummaryOregon Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair, Applied Computing & Geomatics within the College of Engineering, Technology and Management (ETM). This academic leader will guide the department across IT, cybersecurity, AI, and geospatial science, driving strategic growth, program accreditation, online expansion, enrollment, and industry collaboration.
The department offers programs in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Geomatics and has received national recognition and awards for excellence. It also operates the state’s only online ABET‑accredited surveying program.
Responsibilities- Lead strategic growth and innovation across Cyber, IT, Geomatics, and upcoming AI programs.
- Oversee accreditation readiness and online program quality.
- Drive enrollment, retention, and student‑centered learning initiatives.
- Build and deepen collaborations with industry, government, and research partners.
- Manage faculty recruitment, mentorship, and salary/funding.
- Represent the department within the college, university, and external forums.
- Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, GIS, Computer Science, Applied Computing, or a closely related discipline.
- Evidence of full professor rank with tenure—exceptional distinction in leadership, publication, and service.
- Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, program administration, or applied‑research management.
- Collaborative, transparent, and data‑informed leadership that builds trust and advances shared governance.
- Strong administrative, fiscal, and organizational skills with strategic alignment and accountability.
- Commitment to student‑centered learning, experiential education, and faculty mentorship.
- Ability to cultivate partnerships across academia, industry, and government.
- Capacity to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Understanding of the intersection between digital systems, spatial intelligence, and applied research for the public good.
- Experience with ABET or computing‑related accreditation and program assessment.
- Success in online program quality management and multimodal instruction.
- Evidence of faculty recruitment, mentoring, and retention effectiveness.
- Success in grant writing, sponsored projects, or externally funded research.
- Familiarity with AI, cybersecurity, data science, and geospatial technologies in workforce and research settings.
