Scales, mixes and bakes various bakery goods, maintains inventory levels, and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the bakery department meets standards. Performs other related work as needed. Generally works 6–8 hour shifts between 3:00 am and 10:00 pm.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers, maintaining an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service.
- Produce bakery products for retail stores.
- Operate and clean equipment and work area, maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary bakery area and equipment.
- Package all fresh products following all packaging/handling procedures.
- Ensure quality of goods by following code.
- Mix icing or other toppings by scaling and measuring ingredients, operating a mixer, reading the recipe, and occasionally lifting 50 lb. bags of sugar, shortening, and flour.
- Dumps icing or other toppings into large storage containers.
- Set‑up cakes by removing liners, placing icing between layers, and assembling large batches.
- Ices cakes, lathers icing, applies decorations, and lifts buckets for high‑volume production.
- Packs cakes, labels bakery items via DiGi machine, and displays products on shelves using FIFO for rotation.
- Takes orders by phone and in person, handles special orders using an air brush machine and related tools.
- Personalizes cakes by writing the desired words for customers.
- Faces merchandise and maintains customer awareness with fast, friendly service.
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques in person, over the telephone, and via in‑store intercom.
- Follows company guidelines for setting up and maintaining stock, cleanliness, and appeal of product show cases and display tables.
- Assists customers with inquiries and provides accurate pricing, ingredient, and availability information.
- Ensures quality of goods by following code dating procedures and legal regulations for all in‑store bakery products.
- Maintains accurate inventory and production records, notifying manager of stock levels as scheduled.
- Produces breads/rolls, sets up racks and ovens, operates machines, and pushes/pulls racks.
- Clean work area using pressure hose, floor brush, squeegee, and wiping tables and utensils.
- Produces croissants through folding, proofing, and baking.
- Opens and closes bakery following company procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
- Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including night, weekends, and holidays.
- Pushing and pulling approximately 100 lb. of product at a time on racks.
- Lift objects up to 50 lb. chest high.
- Conduct visual inspections, read and follow production guides and recipes, and log production quantities and temperatures.
- Operate kitchen utensils and equipment with manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
- Maintain composure when dealing with customers and coworkers.
- Reach overhead to place product on racks.
- Stand, walk, and move rapidly for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, balance, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, and perform repetitive movements.
- Handle bakery ingredients.
- Perform basic math (add, subtract, divide, multiply) and compute weights and measures.
- Operate safely around baking equipment, including handling heat up to 465 °F.
- Follow safety and sanitation procedures and department policies, using cleaning chemicals safely.
- Prioritize tasks and multitask efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Wear hats, hairnets, gloves, and other PPE as required.
