12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Thalia Waste Management

Location:

Hybrid location - mix of working in North Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire and from home

At Thalia Waste Management, health, safety and quality are fundamental to how we operate. From protecting our colleagues to delivering reliable services for our customers, we're committed to doing things safely, responsibly and to a high standard.

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Health, Safety and Quality Business Partner to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to operations, building strong relationships and making a real difference. You'll work alongside our Account Directors, site leadership teams and compliance colleagues to strengthen our safety culture, improve quality performance and help our teams manage risk effectively.

We're not looking for someone who simply monitors compliance. We want a confident, approachable professional who can influence, challenge and support our operational teams to achieve better outcomes.

What you'll be doing

As our Health, Safety and Quality Business Partner, you'll play a key role in helping our sites operate safely, consistently and effectively.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with operational leaders:
Acting as a trusted advisor to Account Directors and site leadership teams, providing practical advice and helping leaders take ownership of health, safety and quality.
  • Driving a proactive safety culture:
Supporting the implementation of health and safety policies, management systems and behavioural safety programmes, with a focus on prevention rather than reaction.
  • Managing incidents and learning:
Leading and supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring lessons learned translate into meaningful improvements.
  • Strengthening quality standards:
Supporting the development and continuous improvement of our Quality Management System, helping teams deliver consistent, right-first-time outcomes.
  • Auditing and managing risk:
Delivering risk-based audits and inspections, identifying trends and ensuring corrective and preventative actions are completed effectively.
  • Coaching and developing colleagues:
Delivering training, workshops and toolbox talks that build confidence, capability and accountability across our operational teams.
  • Turning data into action:
Monitoring performance, analysing trends and providing clear, practical insights that support better decision-making.
  • Supporting wider business objectives:
Working collaboratively with central HSEQ teams and contributing specialist expertise to work-winning activity where required.
You’ll bring
  • Significant experience in a health and safety business partnering role, ideally within an operational, industrial or similarly complex environment.
  • A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 health and safety qualification.
  • Grad IOSH status, with progress towards Chartered status.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and management systems, including ISO 45001.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining Quality Management Systems, with working knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • A proven track record of leading audits, incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The confidence to influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and help drive positive cultural change.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret performance information and turn it into practical recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage colleagues at all levels.
  • A flexible, organised approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy operational environment.

This 12-month fixed-term opportunity offers the chance to work closely with our operational leaders, influence how we manage health, safety and quality, and contribute to meaningful improvements across our sites.
