The role is based at Tarmac Dolyhir / Strinds Quarry and Asphalt Plant, Presteigne, close to Hereford in Herefordshire. The site is easily accessible from Hay on Wye, Ludlow, Leominster, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown and surrounding areas.

• Respond to plant breakdowns (Quarry and Asphalt Plant) – ensure assets are returned to production in a timely manner and permanent solutions follow temporary fixes.
• Undertake emergency breakdown repairs on all production equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance and shutdowns.
• Own small‑scale projects and deliver them pragmatically and proactively.
• Take a cost‑conscious approach to maintenance activities and participate in root‑cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
• Coordinate with contractors and suppliers when they are on site.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering function through observations and experience.
• Provide welding and fabrication to a good standard.
• Apply risk assessments and method statements, and help develop safe working methods for repair procedures.
• Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
• Challenge unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures.
• Use the computerized maintenance management system and record all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out.

• Recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher‑level standard).
• ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
• Strong practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred – conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens.
• Fault‑finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action.
• Ability to remove and fit bearings.
• Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs on all production equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
• Knowledge of site‑specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
