The Office of the University Registrar at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Assistant Registrar – Compliance and Reporting position. The minimum starting salary for this position is $59,332
. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Serving as a member of the leadership team in the Office of the University Registrar, the Assistant Registrar is the primary position responsible for leading and documenting internal and external compliance matters concerning student academic records. This position is responsible for essential activities related to tracking and certifying the academic eligibility of UTK’s student-athletes, ensuring compliance with all SEC and NCAA bylaws.
It also ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to residency appeals of students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). The role oversees reporting requirements for the National Student Clearinghouse, NCAA, National Student Loan Data System, and other federal and state agencies. Additionally, this role serves as the designated FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) contact for campus partners, investigating FERPA‑related concerns and managing the annual FERPA training as part of UTK’s Annual Compliance program.
Required
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two (2) or more years working in higher education administration
- High level of competency and skills utilizing Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365, scheduling applications, interactive forms, and other similar administrative and/or higher education platforms
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong analytic and critical thinking skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize projects, particularly within a multi-tasking and deadline-driven environment
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion
- Ability to interpret complex policies and regulations
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree
- Two (2) or more years working in a university registrar office
- Knowledge of NCAA Bylaw 14 and Academic Progress Rate/Graduation Success Rate reporting
- Knowledge of Tennessee state law impacting residency determinations / regulations
- Experience with Banner by Ellucian or similar Student Information system
- Knowledge of best practices related to FERPA and student privacy
- Knowledge of the UTK undergraduate curriculum
- Ability to organize and analyze information using University and third‑party reporting tools
